The coalition is led by the National Wildlife Federation, Trout Unlimited and the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership.

Sportsmen Applaud “Thoughtful” Report on Utah Energy Leases

DENVER (October 8, 2009) – A sportsmen coalition today praised a new report on energy development as a “thoughtful step in the right direction” that will help safeguard public lands and air quality in Utah and other western states.

The special report, issued today by the Bureau of Land Management, recommends that the BLM take the lead in developing a comprehensive interagency strategy to address energy development in the West. The recommendations include increasing collaboration at the federal and state levels, studying the use of interdisciplinary field reviews for proposed lease sales and improving interdisciplinary coordination in identifying potential lease parcels.

NWF & MWF Laud Senator Tester’s Restoration Forestry Bill

MISSOULA, MT (July 17, 2009) – The National Wildlife Federation and the Montana Wildlife Federation today hailed the introduction of the Montana Forest Jobs and Recreation Act by Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT).

“Senator Tester’s legislation shows how we can restore America’s forests, put people to work, and protect and enhance fish and wildlife habitat,” said Larry Schweiger, president & CEO, National Wildlife Federation. “It’s a Montana-made solution that can work on national forests across the country.”

Hunting and Fishing Group Backs Bill to Protect Water

Sportsmen for Responsible Energy Development calls on oil and gas industry to disclose chemicals they use

WASHINGTON (June 9, 2009 ) Sportsmen applauded legislation introduced today to regulate a controversial energy industry drilling practice suspected of contaminating ground water.

The bill, sponsored by Reps. Diana DeGette, D-Colo. and Maurice Hinchey, D-N.Y., would require the energy industry to reveal the chemical contents of hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” fluids used to fill fissures in rock formations and force oil or natural gas from wells.
